    WHO MADE ME?

Meet Marlyn and Augusto – two very talented people responsible for Your Boyfriends Shirt! Marlyn’s main responsibility is pattern making. When she’s not busy working, she watches action movies or spends quality time with her two daughters. Her favorite flower is a rose.  Augusto is a cutter, who’s from Bulacan and has three daughters and one son. He, too, loves action movies! We have been working with Marlyn for quite some time and she very recently launched her own venture. We are so proud to work with her and her team!

The lovely crocheted detail is brought to you by Milvidas. This community all started at a 70th birthday party where, instead of receiving gifts, the lovely celebrant thought it best to build a home for Gawad Kalinga. By the end of the night, they had raised enough money for 10 homes, and this momentum culminated in “The Family Legacy Village,” a once-dumpsite area where 110 families now reside. The daughters of the woman who started the project took it one step further and set up a livelihood program for the women in the community to help provide for their families. When we spoke to the 16 lovely (and spirited) ladies, they told us that no matter how big or how small the household contribution, it’s a big help. This livelihood program is very tied to the community – so much so that the salary of the preschool teacher of the village is funded by the proceeds of their work. Beyond putting food on the table and sending their children to school, these women love their work because it allows them to be creative and feel excited about the challenge of figuring out new patterns and styles. The lively and confident Jenny explains that it feels good to be recognized for her hard work. She went on further to tell us that she is tickled pink by the idea of her work with FINI traveling overseas! These women and their model community are such an inspiration to us.
